Project Lead The Way Course Inspires Engineering Ingenuity

Brentwood Middle School seventh graders recently designed, built and programmed robot dragsters as part of their Project Lead The Way course. This hands-on project introduced students to key engineering and technology concepts, including mechanical systems, energy transfer, machine automation and computer control systems.

Using the VEX Robotics platform, students worked in teams to create dragsters capable of both speed and precision — racing 20 feet at top velocity while stopping as close to the finish line as possible. After weeks of planning, problem-solving and fine-tuning their designs, students put their robots to the test in the school’s annual Robot Drag Race.

“This experience gives students an authentic look at what engineering really involves,” said Sarah Pfeifer, BMS engineering technology teacher. “They encounter obstacles, adapt their designs and persevere through trial and error, all while building teamwork and critical-thinking skills.”

Congratulations to the team of Andrew S., Malaya W. and Ellie W. for winning this year’s competition!
