Gifted Education

At McGrath, our gifted education program provides enriched learning experiences for students whose academic or creative strengths extend beyond the general curriculum. Through project-based learning, hands-on challenges and opportunities to think deeply and creatively, students engage with content in ways that nurture curiosity, build confidence and strengthen critical-thinking skills.

Gifted learners may show advanced problem-solving abilities, learn new concepts quickly or demonstrate a unique approach to ideas and tasks. Because these traits look different in every child, our approach is designed to recognize each student’s strengths and provide learning experiences that support both academic growth and social-emotional development.

How Students Are Identified

McGrath uses an inclusive identification process that looks at multiple measures of student ability and potential. Universal screening takes place at selected grade levels and for students who are new to the district. Students who show advanced potential may participate in additional assessments to determine whether gifted services are appropriate.

What Gifted Services Look Like

Students who qualify for gifted education receive instruction that goes deeper and moves at a faster pace than the general curriculum. Learning experiences may include:

  • Creative problem-solving and critical-thinking tasks
  • Enrichment projects and hands-on investigations
  • Opportunities to work with peers who share similar strengths
  • Support in developing social-emotional and academic skills

Gifted services are provided during the school day in small-group settings that encourage collaboration, creativity and personal growth.
